Despite the late hour, massive protests broke out across the country almost immediately after Donald Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States.

The largest protests were staged on the West Coast, where angry demonstrators chanting “not our president” and “f–k Trump” took to the streets of Berkeley, Oakland and Los Angeles.In Oakland, people burned an effigy of Trump, smashed windows and set fires in the middle of streets, KNTV-TV reported. The Oakland Tribune’s newsroom reportedly had several of its windows broken during the tumultuous protests. “When our communities are under attack, what do we do? Mr. Trump is going to Washington. President Obama congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory and invited him to the White House for a meeting Thursday, the White House said. Obama plans to address Trump’s win in a statement on Wednesday.
