Parents furious over children being expelled without prior notice
PARAMARIBO – Parents whose children passed to the 10th grade of the technical school are furious over the fact that their children were expelled without prior notice. Several parents pointed out that they were told that they had to enroll their children in a Mulo school. These parents disapprove of this new rule because they had deliberately opted to enroll their children in a technical school. They are puzzled by the fact that the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture implemented this new rule without consulting parents and students first.
“My daughter was expelled and I was told that I would receive a call so that I could know where and when I had to enroll her. I wonder how long my daughter will have to stay home. This rule discourages he children,” said a concerned mother. The parents made it clear that this is no way to treat the next generation. They also complained that nobody keeps them up-to-date on the latest developments. The new school year started on October 1st but many students still haven’t found a spot at a school.
Stanley Wagimin pointed out that he registered his son on August 20th but that he still has not received any word from the Ministry of Education. “Does the Ministry of Education have a plan on how to help these kids? How will it help them to make up for lost time?”
Shevenity Wolf who is a 10th grader explained that she consciously chose to go to the technical school to study mechanical engineering but that she no longer knows which profession she will choose because she will be transferred to a Mulo school. She still has not been enrolled in a Mulo school but hopes that she will be placed at a Mulo school near her home. “This is so discouraging but I want to ask all students not to give up.”…[+]
