Suriname deports Brazilian fugitives

PARAMARIBO – Seven Brazilians fugitives who are part of an international crime organization were deported to Brazil last Wednesday. Investigators believe that these fugitives managed to go into hiding after they had fled from Brazil to avoid being arrested. The Surinamese officials exchanged information with the federal police from Brazil before managing to track down and arresting the suspects on October 8th.

 The suspects were arrested by the Judicial Intervention Team with assistance from the National Army. The Surinamese officials decided to deport them back to Brazil. These suspects are wanted in Brazil for money laundering, smuggling and other capital offences. The Surinamese officials asked their Brazilian counterparts to facilitate the return of these suspects to Brazil because putting them on a commercial flight would present several challenges. The Brazilian federal police sent one of its own planes to pick up these fugitives last Wednesday.
