MMC welcomes new midwives
PARAMARIBO – The Mungra Medical Center (MMC) recently welcomed two new members to its maternity ward. The director of the MMC, Shaista Abdul, told Times of Suriname that these reinforcements are a huge addition for the hospital. The number of midwives at the MMC jumped from five to seven thanks to the arrival of the two new employees.
Abdul explained that as a result of this expansion the Pietronella Hospital Wageningen can be fully provided with care from midwives. For the first time ever the MMC has a male midwife namely Dinesh Surajbali. Dinesh and Gladys Marshal graduated on November 5th and were hired by the MMC.
Midwives provide care to all women in an obstetric unit, whether or not they are considered at high or low risk, and take primary responsibility for women with straightforward pregnancies during labour and birth…[+]
