DC Lewis:“Road to Nickerie is necessary”

District Commissioner Josta Lewis recently made it clear that a road to Nickerie is necessary now more than ever and that a bridge must also be built across the Kaboerie Creek. After two passenger boats sank it became clear that the road and the bridge are needed. DC Lewis recently had a talk with the contractor who explained that he is waiting for the funds so that he could start with the construction of the bridge. The preparations have already been made but the only thing that has to happen is for the funds to be transferred. DC Lewis has urged the minister Finance and Planning to make a partial payment to set things in motion. The contractor assured the DC that he will commence with the construction of the bridge as soon as he receives a partial payment. On November 1 the Blueboot sank. Fortunately nobody was injured. Recently a second boat sank namely the Kabarali. After these mishaps it became evident that a road is vital to reach certain areas in Nickerie. It is also much safer to travel by land. Many people who heard about the mishaps are afraid to get on a boat.
