Tropical Storm Sara projected to make landfall in Belize on Sunday
BELIZE – Belizeans in the path of Tropical Storm Sara are bracing for excessive rainfall and potential flooding and landslides.
Chief Meteorologist at the National Meteorologist Service of Belize, Ronald Gordon, in a news conference this afternoon said the cone of uncertainty for Tropical Storm Sara covers from southern Belize to almost the full north of the country. He said there is still uncertainty as to which path the system will take, however, the most probable track is the system will make landfall somewhere between Dangriga and Placencia on Sunday morning between 3 am and midday.
In preparation for Tropical Storm Sara, it was announced that operations at the Phillip S.W. Goldson International Airport (PGIA) will continue to function today, however, operations on Saturday may be impacted. Water taxi operations will close at midday on Saturday as well as operations at the Port.
NEMO in a statement today said a tropical storm warning remains in effect from Belize City southward to the border with Guatemala, including all the Cayes in Belizean waters.
