ABOP rejects presidential decree

Vice President Ronnie Brunswijk on Wednesday announced that he would go to
President Chandrikapersad Santokhi personally in response to the appointment
of deputy ministers Sieuw Ramsukul and Maurits Hassankhan. Ramsukul is the
deputy minister at the Ministry of Land Affairs and Forest Management (GBB)
while Hassankhan is the deputy minister of Home Affairs.
Brunswijk who is also the chairman of the ABOP, held an emergency meeting
with the top officials of his party. The ABOP which strongly opposes the higher
authorization that was given to the deputy ministers also made it clear that the
presidential decree is in violation of the constitution and demanded that the higher
authorization of the deputy ministers and the presidential decree be scrapped.
It also urged the president to stick to the agreements that were made as part of
the political alliance.
The chairman of the ABOP made it clear that he always sticks to the agreements
and that he will not allow anybody to walk over the ABOP. The spokesman of the
president, Jason
Saiman, pointed out that a final decision regarding this issue will be made at a
meeting of government officials on December 9.
