President Santokhi visits Johanna and Margaretha plantation

President Chandrikapersad Santokhi on Sunday visited about 400 residents at the Johanna and Margaretha plantation, which is located in Commewijne. Johanna and Margaretha is a region with a rich history and immense potential. “It was extraordinary to see how they live and work. I am proud that I am the first president to visit this spot. Together with the villages of Alliance, Rust en Werk and Kroonenburg, Johanna and Margaretha form an important part of the right shore of the Commewijne River. Several months ago we stood shoulder to shoulder with the residents of Alliance when we tackled the dam collapse together. In 2022 we also took an important step with the reopening of the clinics of the Regionale Gezondheidsdienst (RGD) at the plantations Kroonenburg, Johanna and Margaretha and Rust en Werk. Those clinics have been completely renovated. That’s all part of our policy namely to give back to the community. This also means progress for each Surinamese citizen in every part of the country. Yesterday we had face to face meetings and we also handed over essential aid parcels to the community. This aid is aimed at meeting the daily needs of the residents and strengthening the communities further. I once again emphasized the importance of supporting the community by creating new opportunities. Together we will build a future filled with hope, growth and progress.”
