An illegal airstrip which is located at Avanavero and which had been disabled on December 1, 2022 was disabled again on May 16 to keep planes from landing and taking off from there. This airstrip was used to smuggle contraband and illegal drugs in particular. During patrols that were carried out in the area recently it became clear that the airstrip had been repaired and that it was once again being used for illegal landings.
