PARAMARIBO – The deputy chairman of Pertjajah Luhur (PL), Bronto Somohardjo, recently made it clear that he is in favor of amending the legislation so that housemates can get a gun permit. He explained that homeowners should be given the tools to protect their families and property against armed criminals. Statistics show that the crime rate has gone up and that most of the robbers are often armed with weapons. Somohardjo promised that his political party, the PL party, would make the law on gun permits more flexible. He made it clear that the PL party would need to rake in enough votes on Election Day in 2025 to keep its promise. Somohardjo who is currently the minister of Home Affairs (BIZA) wants homeowners to be able to obtain a gun easier and faster after having passed a thorough background check.
