AG to investigate illegal immigration of Haitians

PARAMARIBO – Haitian passengers who arrived in Suriname recently will be screened again. Surinamese officials will do so in response to a French report about illegal immigration and human trafficking. The French report which also mentions the recent flow of Haitian citizens to Suriname will reportedly be sent to the Attorney General who will launch an investigation to find out who has broken the law in Suriname.

 “What I want to emphasize is that this administration will not allow Haitians or people from other countries to be brought here illegally or that they become victims of human trafficking. Human trafficking will not be tolerated,” said the minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Collaboration (Bibis), Albert Ramdin. Minister Ramdin confirmed that the government has put together a complete file with the names of all of the people who came to Suriname after the flights to Haiti were resumed. “All of the documents were sent to the attorney general who will decide the course of the investigation,” said Minister Ramdin. Surinamese officials have already contacted the Haitian authorities to discuss this matter.
