Brunswijk: “Marwina Regional Hospital does not even meet minimal standards”
Vice president Ronnie Brunswijk recently claimed that the Marwina Regional Hospital just looks like a shadow of what it is supposed to be for healthcare in the eastern part of Suriname. He pointed out that the hospital does not have even basic medicines such as Calpol. “The Marwina Regional Hospital does not even meet minimal standards. They have nothing”, said the vp who openly expressed his disappointment and who also referred to the fact that Health minister Amar Ramadhin recently acknowledged that the hospital is not yet operational. Brunswijk commented on the status of the only hospital in the eastern part of Suriname after reports indicated that a worker from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing recently required immediate medical treatment which he could not get at the Marwina Hospital which is why he had to be rushed to neighbouring French Guiana. Reports also indicate that the worker would have died if they had not rushed him to a hospital in French Guiana. “The doctors at the hospital could do nothing so the woman had to be taken to French Guiana asap”, said the vp. Brunswijk made it clear that he felt limited in his actions as vp because the Ministry of Finance and Planning is tasked with providing funds to the hospital.
