DC Gobardhan wants to deploy former soldiers in Nickerie district
Districtcommissioner (dc) Senrita Gobardhan recently presented a proposal aimed at deploying former soldiers in the Nickerie district in order to beef up security. She recently attended a meeting with 70 members of the Foundation for the Reintegration of Former Soldiers (SREM) and expressed her admiration for former soldiers because of their skills and expertise. “If you are confident that you are still able to make a contribution,I will welcome it with open arms”, said dc Gobardhan at the end-of-the-year party of the SREM in Nickerie. The dc made it clear that “although the district operates well on certain levels there is still room for more improvement of the security.”
She explained that a security plan could be drawn up in association with the former soldiers. “I strongly believe that we can make Nickerie safer with a joint security plan”, said dc Gobardhan.
The director of SREM, lieutenant Wensly Kuik, responded positively to the dc’s gesture and called it a constructive proposal as it is aimed at guaranteeing security in the district. He also applauded the dc’s promise to help former soldiers who don’t own a small piece of land to help them get one so that they can build their own house and plant crops.
