First Chikungunya fatality listed

SURINAME – The official statistics indicate that one person has died in Suriname as a result of Chikungunya. Marthelise Eersel, director at the Health Ministry, on Tuesday officially confirmed the reports. Lesly Resida, director of the Public Health Bureau (BOG), also confirmed the reports. There are currently 470 confirmed cases but it is suspected that as many as 2,000 people could be infected with the virus at present.
