LBO students are given the runaround: “The education system is upside down”

PARAMARIBO – Students from the schools for lower vocational education who recently passed the final exam and who graduated complained that they can neither find a spot at one of the nation’s mulo schools and high schools. Whenever they go to a mulo school or a Havo school for enrollment, they are told that there is no room for them.

These students are told that only mulo students who did not score enough points for an education package are being enrolled at Havo. They are also referred to the IMEAO school located in the Metaalstraat but when they go there, they are told that LBO students from the C course are not being enrolled. The students pointed out that the entire situation is unpleasant. “This situation is causing a lot of stress and it also demotivates us. It is especially difficult for students who do not have their own means of transportation and who have to take a bus, taxi or walk in the scorching sun. The education system is currently upside down. It has deteriorated. Students do not know who to turn to. This should not be happening in this modern and computerized era. It seems as if a witch hunt is aimed at students to keep them from making something of themselves. All of the people who have come up with the plans for the current changes in the education system got to where they are because of good education. The right people must be placed at the right posts and if the ministry lacks the expertise, it should hire people who can make sure that the education system runs smoothly,” said the students. These students must persevere and unite themselves because together they stand strong. Their parents must keep supporting them no matter how difficult things may get.”…[+]
