PARAMARIBO – A man who is currently on trial for having sex with his 13-year-old stepdaughter confessed to sleeping with the victim but claimed that she had asked him to have sex with her. “I could not control myself when she came into my room in the nude,” said the defendant who added that he wanted to please the underage girl and her mother.

The defendant told the court that the girl’s mother wanted him to bring more money home. He started dating the woman when her daughter was 3 months old. The defendant who adopted his stepdaughter reportedly had sex with her on 8 occasions. He and his stepdaughter had sex whenever the woman was not home.

The defendant acknowledged that he had failed to be a good role model to his stepdaughter but claimed that she had suicidal tendencies and that she had also sent nude pictures to his phone. Judge Maytrie Kuldip Singh made it clear to the defendant that he should have known better. “You were supposed to protect her,” said the judge.
