Men arrested over payment with fake money

PARAMARIBO – A 61-year-old man went to the Rijsdijk Police Station to press charges against 5 men. S. Koetoe-Agaasie had given the men a taxi ride but received a fake USD 100 bill as payment. The men claimed that they did not have any Surinamese dollars on them so they paid with foreign currency.

 The taxi driver was not wearing his glasses so he could not inspect the bill thoroughly. After a while he realized that he had received a counterfeit bill. The next day he happened to spot one of the 5 men, while he was giving a customer a taxi ride. The senior citizen pulled over and approached the man to confront him. The taxi driver managed to take the man to the police station. After the police had questioned the suspect, two other suspects were tracked down and taken into police custody. Nineteen-year-old Desmond I, 18-year-old Gordon A and 18-year-old Rodensio R are currently in jail awaiting trial. The two other suspects are still at large. The investigation is ongoing…[+]
