The chairman of De Nieuwe Leeuw (DNL), Dharm Mungra, recently made it clear that some political parties only sell dreams to the nation. “It is becoming increasingly clear that the people are losing faith in the old politics,” said Mungra who added that many people are not motivated to go to the polls because of the disappointments that are the results of the failure of certain political parties who ran the country and which are currently running the country. The bad policy and the broken promises have resulted in a growing frustration among the people.
Mungra told Times of Suriname that change will come after the next elections. He sees the elections as a chance to let go of the past and to bring about real change. “The next elections will be crucial,” said Mungra who explained that people must vote for a party that actually has a clear objective to tackle the nation’s problems. “The DNL is a party that focuses on the long term and that has detailed plans that could actually help the nation.”
