Nation to escort Bouterse to final resting place
Former president Desi Bouterse will be escorted to his final resting place by the people. People from the city and the districts will show up to honour him and to pay their respect,” Ricardo
Panka, spokesman of the National Democratic Party (NDP), told Times of Suriname.
The high ranking officials of the NDP made it clear that they would not wait around for the government to decide if it would grant the honorary chairman of the NDP a state funeral or a funeral with sate honor. “I expect an exceptionally huge turnout on the day of the funeral. People will come from all over the country,” said Panka.
The chairwoman of the NDP, Jennifer Simons, pointed out that Bouterse would get a funeral with the people’s honor. “He was a leader of the people, the people’s president and a hero of the people,” said Simons who is a former legislator and former chairwoman of parliament. Meanwhile the Public Prosecutor’s Office has released the autopsy report. The funeral service for the former president will most likely be held on January 4th.
