Off-duty NYPD officer critically injured, female passenger killed in Bronx car crash

A woman was killed and an off-duty NYPD cop critically injured after their car flipped over and erupted into a fireball in the Bronx, officials said Thursday.

The 32-year-old cop was driving a 2012 Dodge Charger along City Island Road when the muscle car flipped over and burst into flames as it entered the City Island Circle at Park Drive about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Two cops assigned to the nearby NYPD firing range at Rodman’s Neck had just gotten off duty when they came upon the single-vehicle crash, officials said. They managed to pull the driver from the flaming wreck but couldn’t grab the unconscious and severely burned woman, who died at the scene. The woman had not been identified by Thursday morning, police sources said.(nydailynews)…[+]
