PARAMARIBO – All of the trees that are located alongside the streets in the inner city of Paramaribo are the property of the state and may not be cut down without permission from state officials. Many of these trees were planted decades ago and are currently posing a threat as they are rotting on the inside.

These trees that are hollow on the inside could damage the historic buildings that are located in the inner city. The government has already given the order for these trees to be inspected and for the old ones to be removed as soon as possible to protect people, buildings and vehicles. Public Green on Wednesday removed one of the old mahogany trees located in the Heerenstraat.
