One dead, five hurt as Staten Island house fire rages amid snowstorm

One person has died and five people suffered serious injuries when a massive fire tore through a Staten Island home during Thursday’s snowstorm, officials said. The blaze began in the home on Post Ave. near Heberton Ave. in Elm Park about 7 a.m., officials said. Within an hour, the fire grew in size and drew 140 firefighters. The blaze continued to rage 90 minutes after it began. A resident died at the scene, officials said. Five others suffered injuries and were being treated at the scene.
