Passing of Carter 39th President of the United States
PARAMARIBO – The Embassy of the United States of America regretfully announces the death of James Earl Carter, Jr., the thirty-ninth President of the United States, on December 29, 2024. President Joseph R. Biden has declared January 9, 2025, National Day of Mourning throughout the United States for the death of President James Earl Carter, Jr.
People of the world who share grief over the passing of President Carter are invited to join in this solemn observance to pay homage to his memory. Pursuant to President Biden’s declaration, all federal offices, including the Embassy of the United States of America in Paramaribo, will be closed January 9, 2025.
In honor of President James Earl Carter, Jr., a condolence book will be made available at the U.S. Embassy for the signatures of representatives of the government of Suriname, including District Commissioners, Chiefs of Mission of Embassies in Paramaribo and other members of the diplomatic corps. Furthermore,
members of the general public are invited to sign the condolence book on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at the U.S. Embassy on Kristalstraat 165 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Please use the main entrance off Kleinestraat.
Additionally, the Embassy wishes to announce that flags at all U.S. facilities in Suriname will be displayed at half-staff until sunset on January 28, 2025, in honor and tribute to the memory of President James Earl Carter, Jr., and as an expression of public sorrow.
