PL chairman ordered to clear his office:

PARAMARIBO – Paul Somohardjo, chairman of Pertjajah Luhur (PL) and state advisor, was recently ordered by the Office of the President, to clear his office which is located on the premises of the Ministry of Home Affairs (BIZA). The order was given by President Chandrikapersad Santokhi due to the fact that a new minister and a deputy minister will run this ministry.
The office where Somohardjo worked will reportedly be used by the deputy minister. Somohardjo told Times of Suriname that he did not receive the news about the appointment of a new minister via the official channels but via the media.
Somohardjo told Times of Suriname that he had a good talk with President Santokhi
and Vice President Ronnie Brunswijk last Tuesday and that the president had assured him that he wanted to continue the political alliance. He was therefore shocked to hear that he had to pack up and leave. “I initially thought that it was a joke but later on I was informed that his office would be used by the future deputy minister at BIZA,” said Somohardjo who added that he was given the office due to his position as state advisor. “I still haven’t received any official calls or letter from the president. That is no way to treat people,” said Somohardjo who added that the PL is weighing its options in light of the recent events. “I have already cleared the office,” said Somohardjo.
Bronto Somohardjo, deputy chairman of the PL, made it clear that the PL is extremely disappointed. “The president didn’t even bother to contact us. The president most likely sees the PL as a party without any value. He probably thinks that he can play with the supporters of the Pertjajah Luhur but I can assure that this will turn out to be a mistake,” said Bronto Somohardjo who emphasized the importance of showing mutual respect. “If the president promises us that we can present a minister but does not keep his word and suddenly does something else without informing us, he is in fact not showing any respect to us. We will discuss this matter internally and will release an official statement this week. The president did not show respect to the supporters of the PL, but chose not to inform them. This disrespect will turn out to be a miscalculation.”
