Plane crashes in Nickerie:

2 bodies found at crash site

The joint unit of the Police Force Suriname (KPS) that has been tasked with investigating the plane crash that happened in the Nickerie District last Wednesday reportedly found parts of the plane on the shore of the Nickerie River. The bodies of two men who are most likely foreigners were also found in the Stondansi falls region. The joint unit also recovered 170 parcels that most likely contain cocaine. Only 21 parcels were not damaged by the fire that was caused by the crash.

Sources told Times of Suriname that a huge section of the plane disappeared in the river. Shortly after the plane had been spotted by a local resident, it went down and exploded. The person who had spotted the plane notified the police of the plane crash. It is unclear if this plane crash will be investigated by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority Suriname. Several illegal airstrips were detected and destroyed in the hinterland this year.
