Police Commissioner Isaacs: “The police are closer than you think”

PARAMARIBO – “The police are closer than you think. Due to Operation Christmas Bread the number of police patrols have been beefed up. Police officers in plainclothes are often on patrol in the various neighbourhoods to maintain law and order,” Police Commissioner Bryan Isaacs told Times of Suriname.

The commissioner explained that the police patrol the neighbourhoods undetected so that people can feel safe. “The police do not only carry out raids but are also constantly present in the neighbourhoods. Since the launch of the new operation, several suspects have been arrested. The police have also seized weapons, drugs, tools and other suspicious objects during inspections.

Operation Christmas Bread was launched a week ago and has already proven to be successful. This is just the beginning as the operation will be intensified in the next couple of weeks. We are not taking any risks. It is of the utmost importance that we restore law and order and tackle crime,” said Commissioner Isaacs who added that this operation marks a turning point in the fight against crime in Suriname.
