People who earn less than SRD 7,337 in Suriname have a problem. The Santokhi administration on February 5th decided to set the poverty line in Suriname per December 31st, 2024 at SRD 7,337 for each adult and each household. With this decision the government has actualised and approved the poverty line that was recommended by the workgroup that is tasked with determining the nation’s poverty line. The workgroup carried out its research and reach this figure based on its findings. The poverty threshold, poverty limit, poverty line, or breadline is the minimum level of income deemed adequate in a particular country. The poverty line is usually calculated by estimating the total cost of one year’s worth of necessities for the average adult.
