PARAMARIBO – A 14-year-old girl who appeared in court on Thursday claimed that the defendant who is also her uncle had abused her sexually. 60-year-old Ruben E is suspected of having abused his niece sexually when she was ten until she was  thirteen.

 “He is my father’s brother. I was afraid to tell other people about the sexual abuse. He threatened me with a machete which is why I did not tell anybody about it. The sexual abuse happened when I was alone with him in the house,” said the teenager. The defendant strongly denied having threatened the girl but confessed to having had sex with her.
