PARAMARIBO – In een goed gevulde Anthony Nesty Sporthal, meer bekend als NIS, is op zaterdag de compositie van Vestiane Dixon, getiteld Mi Lobi Bon, uitgeroepen tot het winnende nummer van de 22ste editie van Suripop. Dit lied werd vertolkt door Rumarlo Lont en Zippora Windzak. Op de derde plaats eindigde de compositie van Arantis Forster, getiteld Brok’ Ati, en de compositie van Cyriel Lamesie, getiteld Tru Lobi, eindigde op de tweede plaats.

BBC schrapt spotje met verdachte steekpartij Southport
LONDEN – De BBC heeft een spotje offline gehaald met Axel Rudakubana, de tiener die ervan wordt verdacht in Southport op kinderen te hebben ingestoken. Hij was in het verwijderde filmpje uit 2018 verkleed als The Doctor uit televisieserie Doctor Who, meldt de Britse omroep.
Het gaat om een reclame voor liefdadigheidsinitiatief Children in Need van de BBC. Te zien is hoe Rudakubana verkleed uit de Tardis stapt, de tijdmachine die lijkt op een telefooncel. Een woordvoerder van Children in Need zegt dat het filmpje “van al onze platformen is gehaald” uit respect voor de slachtoffers.
Premier Starmer roept politie op om op te treden tegen geweld ‘plunderende bendes’. De tiener zou overigens niet betrokken zijn geweest bij projecten van het liefdadigheidsproject. Hij was via een castingbureau aangetrokken om een rol te spelen in het filmpje, aldus de BBC.
De 17-jarige Rudakubana wordt inmiddels verdacht van moord en poging tot moord. Hij zou vorige week in Southport met een keukenmes hebben ingestoken op kinderen die een dansklas bezochten. Drie slachtoffers overleden aan hun verwondingen en meerdere kinderen raakten ernstig gewond. (NU.nl)
Israeli airstrikes on two Gaza shelters kill 17
GAZA – Israeli airstrikes on two school buildings in the north of Gaza City killed 17 Palestinians, most of them children, and left at least 63 injured according to Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal on Saturday.
“The schools were targeted a second time with three missiles, resulting in 17 martyrs and dozens of injured individuals who were transported to the Baptist Hospital in the city,” Basal said. According to Gaza Civil Defense, the schools were being used as shelters for people displaced by violence. Both Al-Huda School and Al-Hamama School, which are adjacent to each other and share the same playground, were targeted, Basal said.
Asked for comment on the airstrikes by CNN, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the Israeli Air Force (IAF) struck alleged terrorists operating within a Hamas command and control center. “A short while ago, with the intelligence direction of the IDF and ISA, the IAF struck terrorists operating within a Hamas command and control center. In the past, the compound was known as the Hamama school in the northern Gaza Strip,” the IDF said in a written statement sent to CNN on Saturday.
