Waldeck police station open again

The police station that is located in Waldeck and which had been closed in August, was back in business again last Monday. After the police officers who were stationed at this police stationed were reassigned to other police stations, the Waldeck police station was turned into a juvenile center. The juvenile center was established with the help of a fund of the United Nations. After the station was shut down, the local residents had to travel to either the Corantijnpolder or Nieuw-Nickerie to report a crime. The local residents delivered a petition for President Chandrikapersad Santokhi at the office of District Commissioner Senrita Gobardhan. They were discontent with the closure of this police station and complained about the growing crime rate.

 Police Commissioner Bryan Isaacs recently decided to take a U-turn on the decision to close down the police station. The residents applauded the reopening of the police station and explained that they did not feel safe. Shanti Changoer who lives at Waldeck is very happy that the police officers have returned.
