Union at BIZA applauds resignation of Somohardjo

The union at the Ministry of Home Affairs (BIZA) appaluded the fact that Minister Bronto Somohardjo has handed in his letter of resignation. “In a country as Suriname with its various ethnic groups it is unacceptable to have a minister who implements a policy that promotes discrimination, rancour and bullying.
We have sounded the alarm from the very beginning. From
the very beginning I noticed a few things about his minister. After a
while the government also noticed the things that I had mentioned,”
Jermain Ligeon, deputy chairman of the union at BIZA, told Times of Suriname. In the past couple of months Ligeon revealed several irregularities that were happening at the ministry. The deputy union chairman claimed that Bronto Somohardjo was aware of the corruption and that he deemed it necessary to inform the nation of
the things that were happening at the ministry. “The nation had to be informed that there the minister is corrupt. And when I had presented these things, the minister put me in his crosshairs. He started painting a negative picture of me by saying that
I was lazy and that I did not want to work,” said Ligeon who insisted
that the former minister had implemented a corrupt policy. “If that
was not the case the Central Audit Department (CLAD) would already have concluded its investigation within a few days. But the CLAD investigation will last until the end of November. That means that a few things which clearly indicate that corruption took place have been detected,” said Ligeon who added that “I am eager to know who will become the new minister of Home Affairs.” Meanwhile Pertjajah Luhur has made it clear that it must appoint the new minister.
