Ameridians and CCASopposedealwith Chinalco
The Association of Indigenous Village Chiefs in Suriname and John Goedschalk,
the director of Climate Change Advisory Services (CCAS), strongly oppose the
deal that the Surinamese government has signed with Chinalco for mining bauxite
in the western part of Suriname. Both organizations want the government to
pull out of this deal and to inform the nation about the impact of it on the local
community and the consequences of mass deforestation in the area on the environment
and the climate of Suriname. The Amerindians and the CCAS will take
legal action if the government does not freeze this deal and initiates talks with
them.
