Dominican Republic authorities intercept cocaine smuggling attempt
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – A Dominican-Spanish national was arrested at the Las Américas International Airport after authorities discovered three packages of cocaine hidden in their luggage, intended for a flight to Madrid, Spain.
Airport security personnel detected suspicious images during a routine X-ray screening of the traveller’s baggage, prompting a thorough investigation. Officials opened the luggage and discovered three packages of cocaine cleverly concealed within clothing and wrapped in plastic.
Forensic analysis by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) confirmed the presence of 3.63 kilograms of cocaine. The suspect was immediately detained and set to be transferred to the Permanent Care Jurisdiction of Santo Domingo province. (Loopnews.caribbean)
