The medical specialists who are also members of the Association of Physicians in Suriname (VMS) recently ended their campaign against the State Health Insurance Fund (SZF) in response to the December 12 meeting with the Public Health minister and a delegation from the SZF.
During this meeting the parties discussed the existing problems and reached several agreements. The medical specialists cancelled their strike which was supposed to commence on December 16. As part of the strike the medical specialists would let SZF patients pay cash for medical treatments because the SZF has not paid the specialists on time for many months now. The SZF also has not paid many of the bills that were sent by the medical specialists.
Patients with a card from the SZF can go to their medical specialists without having to pay cash for the treatment.
