Jamaica-born Nesta Leeloo celebrates 108th birthday as second oldest living woman in US

JAMAICA – A shining example of resilience, love and family values, is how Jamaican Consul General Oliver Mair described Nesta Leeloo who celebrated her 108th birthday on January 6.  Affectionately called ‘Mama’, Leeloo was born in Mandeville, Jamaica, and moved to the United States (US) after getting married. She is the second oldest living person in the US. America’s oldest resident is Naomi Whitehead, age 114. She was born in Georgia on September 26, 1910, and now resides in Greenville, Pennsylvania. At her recent birthday celebration in Tamarac, South Florida, surrounded by her large family and community, Leeloo reflected on the remarkable life she has lived. “I had a wonderful life, I had wonderful parents, could not ask for more,” she reflected during her birthday celebration. Her life philosophy, grounded in decency and respect for her upbringing, continues to inspire both her family and community. (Jamaica gleaner)
