DC Lewis: “It is political opposition”
District Commissioner Josta Lewis recently complained about the fact that a village chief and a citizen are trying to convince people that they can make sure that they get a piece of government land in the Nickerie District. “These people don’t know what they want.” The village chief previously expressed his objections when the DC wanted to divide the village into small pieces. Now that same village chief wants to handle land affairs. It is political opposition,” said DC Lewis who added that the village chief is working with an expired list. DC Lewis explained that the people will eventually need advice from the DC but that she will not cooperate. “Everything must go via the District Commissioner’s Office which is why I am not responsible for things that happen outside of my office,” said DC Lewis who added that she is busy trying to get the president to hand out land papers in Kabalebo. “When things go too far, I will report it to the police.”
