More illegal immigrants arrested during Operation Sparimakka

Operation Sparimakka which was launched on May 27th, and which is aimed at fighting crime on the territorial waters of Suriname, recently yielded positive results because four illegal immigrants who turned out to be Guyanese citizens were arrested after their fishing boat was intercepted on June 1. On Monday five illegal Brazilians were arrested when their fishing boat was intercepted in the vicinity of Leonsberg. Suriname has been plagued by illegal fishing. The illegal fishing operations pose a threat to the export of fish.
