Dengue pops up again

There have been several confirmed cases of dengue. After several patients had visited their doctors with dengue symptoms, they were referred to the laboratory to get tested for dengue. “They reportedly tested positive for dengue,” several RGD doctors told Times of Suriname. One of the doctors who works for the RGD pointed out that every week at least two to three people test positive for dengue. The doctors who sounded the alarm run clinics in Flora, Sunny Point, Latour and Santodorp. People who have contracted dengue have the following symptoms” headache, muscle, bone or joint pain, nausea, vomiting, pain behind the eyes, swollen glands and a rash.

“We urge people who are showing these symptoms to contact their family doctor immediately. They must not wait until their situation gets worse. There has also been an increase in the number of people who have the normal flu,” said the doctors who added that it was to be expected that people would get infected with dengue especially during the rainy season. The doctors are urging people to keep their surroundings clean. One of the doctors also urged people to watch out for Weil’s disease because rats and mice tend to seek dry places during the rainy season.
