NCCR urges nation to prepare for flooding

PARAMARIBO – The National Coordination Center for Disaster Control  (NCCR) recently held emergency meetings with the  Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) in response to the reports regarding tropical storms and hurricanes.

 

The  CDEMA and the CIMH have predicted that bad weather could hit Suriname. NCCR coordinator Jerry Slijngard urged the nation to take precautionary measures against possible floodings. One of the most recent storms resulted in heavy rainfall and flooding at multiple locations in Suriname. “Similar situations could repeat themselves,” said  Slijngard. Floodings are expected to occur in the coastal region. 

Meanwhile the NCCR has also met with the Fire Department Suriname (KBS), the Police Force Suriname (KPS), the National Army and the Weather Service to discuss joint operations. …[+]
