“Runaways don’t want to listen to their parents”
PARAMARIBO – There has been an alarming increase in the number of children who run away from home. Reports indicate that most of these children run away from home after their parents or guardians have a serious talk with them. “Children often run away from home because they do not want to listen to their parents,” said the police.
Buys are not the only ones who run away from home because girls are also being reported missing. The youngest person who recently ran away from home was 12 years of age. Last month a 12-year-old boy barged out of his house after he had an argument with his parents. His parents reported him missing when he failed to return home.
Children are running away from home in the districts Paramaribo and Wanica. The police who already have their hands full with tackling crime are urging children to refrain from running away from home. “Children often assume that their parents do not love them or that their parents want to bully them but the truth is that parents want what is best for their children. We want to advise children to refrain from running away from home because they will eventually regret that for many years to come.” …[+]
