15-hour chase leads to major cocaine drug bust in DR waters

BAHAMAS – Multiple law enforcement agencies in the Dominican Republic have intercepted more than a ton of cocaine off the coast of La Altagracia province.

The successful interdiction was the result of “intense monitoring and interdiction work,” as described by officials.

Acting on intelligence reports, Dominican authorities launched a comprehensive operation utilizing air, sea, and land resources to track suspicious activity approaching Dominican territory.

“After more than 15 hours of intense chase,” the authorities stated, “the acting units managed to intercept several nautical miles south of Bayahibe municipality, a 30-foot-long boat with two men on board and 40 bags, containing packages of cocaine.”

The operation not only netted a substantial quantity of drugs but also led to the seizure of equipment potentially used in trafficking operations. Officials reported confiscating “two GPS devices, a satellite radio, several fuel cans, two outboard engines of 200 horsepower each, one refrigerator with water and edibles and other evidence.”

Two Colombian nationals were apprehended during the operation. They have been handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Permanent Care Jurisdiction of La Altagracia province, where they are expected to face coercive measures in the coming hours. (Loopnews.caribbean)…[+]
