St Lucia enters final planning stage for new Underwater Sculpture Park
ST LUCIA – St Lucia is close to selecting the cultural figures that will be part of its Underwater Sculpture Park. Dexter Percil, Head of Marketing at the St Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA), told Loop News that the selection committee is finalising the storyboard and production of the sculptures will begin soon after that process is completed.
He anticipates that work will begin by the end of this year and be finish by the end of 2025. The park is expected to showcase key elements of St Lucia’s culture and history. All of the characters were chosen after a lengthy process where islanders were invited to make submissions.
Percil is excited about the impact that the new sculpture park will have on St Lucia’s tourism product as the island has already set itself as the number one destination in the Caribbean for adventure travellers. “This will bring a whole new dimension to our maritime environment, to our diving and eco-tourism product,” he said.
The government has not yet finalised the location for the Underwater Sculpture Park, but Percil mentioned it will be situated on the west coast, near the historic town of Soufriere, where visitors can also enjoy the stunning Pitons. (Caribbean.loopnews.com)…[+]
