Hispanic woman arrested in cocaine bust at Dominican Republic Airport
BARBADOS – In a joint operation at the José Francisco Peña Gómez International Airport (AILA), law enforcement officials intercepted two packages of suspected cocaine, leading to the arrest of a 49-year-old Hispanic woman.
Police shared that the operation unfolded when military personnel, conducting routine surveillance in the departure area, noticed suspicious images during baggage screening. Following protocol, they subjected the suitcase to a more thorough X-ray examination, which revealed unusual contents.
Under the supervision of a prosecutor and in the presence of the passenger, authorities opened the bag. Inside, they discovered a backpack with a hidden compartment containing two packages of a substance believed to be cocaine. The total weight of the seized drugs exceeded four kilograms. The National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office are now expanding their investigation to determine if others were involved in this international drug trafficking attempt.
