Digicel does not work use Huawei equipment
PARAMARIBO – Telecom provider Digicel has opted not to use any Chinese equipment for its new Deep Blue One submarine cable. Although Digicel worked with a few Chinese contractors, no equipment from Huawei was used because Huawei provides internet services to American offshore oil and gas rigs.
The subsea cable was activated in June, while the new cable landing station in Suriname went live at Weg naar Zee on August 2. The station in Suriname is one of the five landing stations projected for the US$80 million submarine cable. The other four are in Trinidad, Tobago, Guyana and French Guyana. Deep Blue One has 1,900km of submarine cable and 25-terabit data capacity. According to Digicel, its advanced fibre cable network will provide seamless connectivity to the countries it serves, facilitating uninterrupted communication and real-time data transmission.
