Frenchman detained in Dominican Rep as cocaine drug probe expands
BARBADOS – A French man was arrested in the Dominican Republic following a sting operation. The Dominican Republic’s National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD), reported on Sunday Jimmy Ruggueiro was knabbed last week at the Dominican Postal Institute after he allegedly claim a package which contained 16 sheets of cocaine. The drugs had a weight of 440 grams.
DNCD said their probe into the Frenchman followed the arrest of another foreigner last week as he attempted to ship a box of drugs to West Palm Beach, Florida. Authorities said the suspect in that case was a man who lived in the municipality of Boca Chica. The agency said the 48-year-old Frenchman was taken into custody where he remains as police expand their investigation to determine if there are others involved in the case.
