Parents angry at Education Ministry over failure to enroll students

PARAMARIBO – Parents whose child still has not been enrolled at a school are angry at the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. They explained that they still haven’t received any message from the ministry in the summer vacation. Meanwhile the new school year has already started.

 A man whose son still has not been placed at a school,  is puzzled by the fact that the ministry was not able to address the issue in the summer vacation even though it had received all of the lists with the names of these students in August. Other parents also complained that they still haven’t received any calls or text messages from the ministry. They had expected to receive good news from the ministry in the last week of September.

 “I haven’t bought a uniform for my daughter who has to find a spot in the 9th grade, because I do not know if she will be enrolled at the school where I registered her. My daughter is very sad because of the fact that she still can’t go to school while her brothers and sisters have already started. We explained the situation to her but she remains disappointed,” said Selma Pawiroredjo who added that she hopes that the ministry will contact her this week so that her daughter can go to school next week.
