ABOP cuts ties with PL: “I am finished with the PL”
Over a week ago the deputy chairman of Pertjajah Luhur (PL), Bronto Somohardjo, made a few controversial statements about the chairman of ABOP, Ronnie Brunswijk. The PL party has not distanced itself from these controversial statements which is why Brunswijk has decided to cut the ties with its political ally. Brunswijk who is also the vice president of Suriname made it clear that he sees no future in maintaining the ties with the PL and will inform President Chandrikapersad Santokhi of the latest developments. He explained that he had expected the chairman of the PL, Paul Somohardjo, to reprimand his son. The other deputy chairpersons of the PL also failed to distance themselves from the controversial statements. Brunswijk takes the fact that Bronto has declared war against him very serious. He explained that Bronto is his subordinate and that he has stepped out of line with his statements. Bronto revealed that he had a dream where he hit Brunswijk on the head with his walking stick. Brunswijk who is not amused by this dream made it clear that Somohardjo went too far with his statements. Bronto accused the vice president of supporting the efforts aimed at linking him to corruption at the Ministry of Home Affairs (BIZA). Brunswijk denied the accusations and pointed out that the PL would have to face the political consequences. “I am finished with the PL,” said Brunswijk prior to the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers last Wednesday. The ABOP will no longer support the PL but will instead support the Javanese groups that have recently become its newest allies.
