Two robbers on Wednesday targeted a security guard at the Consulate General of Suriname in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. They reportedly fired several shots. According to the French media,  the security guard was standing in front of the consulate on the day in question, when he was suddenly approached by two men. One of the robbers was armed with a gun. The armed robber chased the security guard, who ran into the building after he had spotted the suspects. He managed to catch up with the security guard, before overpowering him and taking his gold necklace. After the armed robbers had snatched the gold necklace, he and his accomplice jumped on a.moped and fled the scene. The Guyana Water Company is also located in the same building as the Surinamese Consulate General. Both offices were closed after the armed robbery. The investigation is ongoing.
