GUYANA - A policeman was busted last Thursday with over 70 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a motorcar he was driving.
According to a statement from the police: “Investigations are ongoing in relation to a large quantity of suspected cannabis found during an intelligence-led operation conducted Thursday morning (April 10, 2025) along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.”
The motorcar was intercepted by ranks of the force near Hauraruni and the vehicle was said to be travelling west along the southerly side of the highway. The driver was identified as Sherman Ferguson, a 31-year-old member of the Guyana Police Force.
A search of the vehicle revealed three large transparent plastic bags that contained a large quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. Ferguson was cautioned and subsequently arrested. The narcotics were weighed in his presence and came up to 34.6kg, which is equivalent to over 70 pounds. He is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. (Kaieteur News)
