GUYANA – Earlier this week, President Irfaan Ali announced that the Dominican Republic (DR) is ready to partner with Guyana to jointly market both countries as a common tourism destination.
The Head of State made these remarks during the sod-turning ceremony for the construction of the New Branded Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. Speaking about the country’s hospitality and tourism sector, President Ali stated, “We are now focusing on eco and nature-based tourism to attract the best investors to Guyana. We are also collaborating with major regional brands that are ready to integrate nature and eco-tourism into their products.” He further revealed that earlier on Tuesday, he held discussions with the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, who expressed a clear readiness to jointly market DR and Guyana as a shared tourism destination. According to President Ali, “These are the types of initiatives that will help us move forward, distinguish us from the competition, and provide us with the ability to succeed and thrive every single day of the year… Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector is poised for significant growth, with several internationally branded hotels being built across the country.” In line with his government’s mission to have three million people pass through the economy by 2030, President Ali explained that they are currently developing a business model to attract these visitors and ensure they utilize the services that the private sector is investing in, such as restaurants, nightclubs, and entertainment facilities.
